Surroundings

‘Op Dreeff’ is located on the elegant Dreef in Haarlem, within walking distance of the attractive city centre. The city has repeatedly been elected as ‘Shopping City of the Year’ and in 2019 as ‘Gastronomic Capital of the Netherlands’. Several city parks are located nearby. The oldest city forest in the Netherlands, the ‘Haarlemmerhout’, can be reached on foot. Thanks to its location near various arterial roads, the houses are easily accessible, and you are quickly connected by car to places in the surrounding area. At the back of ‘Op Dreeff’ is the private car park to park your car. So you never have to search for a parking space in the city.

Accessibility

‘Op Dreeff’ is located in the heart of Haarlem. Various roads provide perfect accessibility, both by car and public transport. The city flats have a direct connection to the N205 with the A9 to Amsterdam, The Hague, Alkmaar and Utrecht. Schiphol Airport is only 20 minutes away. The location is also easy to reach by public transport; in the street itself there is a bus stop that connects to the railway station, and just around the corner (Tempeliersstraat) almost all buses serving Haarlem stop.

History

The four town houses were designed in 1880 by the well-known Haarlem architect A. van der Steur Jnr. and are part of the design for the Hazepetersveld neighbourhood, dating from 1873, by the Haarlem architect L.P. Zocher. Van der Steur Jnr. was the executive architect for the new building of Teylers Museum and of the restoration of the Grote or Sint-Bavokerk in Haarlem.

The building was designed for the wealthy of the time. A bel-etage and various smaller, simple rooms in the basement and the upper floors (for the staff) are a reminder of this period. One of these residents on the Dreef were the Pélerin couple. Mrs Pélerin originated from Paris and had married the public prosecutor from Haarlem. His appointment in 1900 is recorded in the Haarlems Dagblad newspaper of the time.
